It's Not All in The Mind!
I have lost count of the number of times I have heard people say:

"I've been told it's all in my head"

I am aware of how damaging and unhelpful that message
and concept can be, and how physically real and debilitating the symptoms of chronic fatigue are.

And I strongly believe psychology can still help.
What this course offers
Understanding
This course offers a compassionate and holistic and bio-psycho-social framework for understanding how & why people might develop ME/CFS or Long Covid. It also looks at how psychological formulation can help people make sense of their individual experience of symptoms to inform a tailored & targetted treatment pathway.
Options
This course offers an overview of the types of common traps & obstacles that can get in the way of recovery, along with evidence based guidance on ways you can support your patients in engaging effectively in therapy so that they can start stabilising their symptoms & move towards recovery.
Practical examples
Most crucially this course gives you plenty of specific & practical examples of how to put things in practice, to build your confidence of how you can apply these ideas to your own particular circumstances of supporting people with fatigue.
This two-hour course will be offered online via Zoom & costs just £50
Dates to be confirmed
The training is organised in bite-sized, digestible segments & constructed around the framework of 'engaging, regulating, increasing and sustaining' promoted by the British Association for CFS/ME, and informed by current NICE guidance.
By the end of the course you will have a good understanding of what makes people vulnerable to developing ME/CFS or long COVID fatigue, and how psychological formulation can help you and your patients develop a shared understanding of their particular circumstances to inform & initiate appropriate and targeted intervention. You will leave the training with a clear & practical sense of what you can do to support your patients in taking steps towards recovery.
This course is written in collaboration with Lydia Rolley, Advanced Occupational Therapist & author of The Fatigue Book published by Hammersmith Books in October 2022. Lydia & I worked together for many years in the service of supporting young people with a diagnosis of ME/CFS & I have witnessed first hand the power of her wisdom & caring in transforming people's lives. ME/CFS is a complex and challenging condition which is hugely misunderstood. Let our first hand understanding & compassionate wisdom guide you in your recovery.
